It seems that some of the best sounds in Rock & Roll have been designed without a stompbox. Yes, but not so fast! While this is technically true, some guitar gods have used old tape echoes to get their legendary sound, like the famous Maestro Echoplex EP-3 for example. While some guitarists have taken advantage of its echo effect, others used it at all their concerts only for its preamp. This preamp circuit was designed to always be engaged so even those who only used it for the echo effect also enjoyed a superb improvement in their sound from this preamp circuit. All musicians from Eddie Van Halen to the Dead Kennedys' East Bay Ray trusted the EP-3 preamp to take their sound even higher. Now you too can do this with Catalinbread's Epoch Boost. At Catalinbread, we call it outright the mastering pedal because it looks like your basic sound has been perfectly sculpted by a mastering engineer. This is due to the use of the same internal circuit as a real EP-3, from the NOS Orange Drop capacitors to the output mixer stage which acts as a frequency selector, it's all there! Catalinbread allowed itself to increase the internal voltage to 22 Volts, like the original, to give more dynamics and clarity. Inside is a selectable hi-Z input buffer in case you want to use your Epoch Boost as the sole pedal.
