Plugging a guitar directly into a console to create that live distortion sound (Direct-In Distortion) is one of the most typical guitar sounds of the past 60 years and one of the inspiration behind the Color Box. The Crayon is a simplified effect for a more focused overdrive pedal use, so no XLR function, no 3-band EQ but just 4 settings. Master manages the general volume. Pre works like a drive or fuzz setting, i.e. as if you turn up the pre-volume of a preamp to make it saturate, it will begin to cut the sound beyond 75% of its travel if you attack your strings more. Tilt acts as an active control which will boost bass and cut treble simultaneously below 50% of its travel and vice versa above. The Hi-Pass selector allows you to set the frequency of the high-pass filter to 200Hz or 750Hz.
