The Lehle Stereo Volume is a mechanical wear-free stereo volume pedal equipped with a high-precision magnetic pickup. This sensor uses the Hall effect, discovered by Edwin Hall, which measures the strength of a magnetic field. The Hall sensor of the Lehle Stereo Volume is made in Germany and precisely calibrated to the built-in magnet and the stroke of the rocking plate. The platter only moves the magnet, the distance of which is measured by the Hall sensor, which itself controls a VCA. Made in the USA, the high quality Blackmer® stereo VCA (VCA = Voltage Controlled Amplifier) replaces the mechanical potentiometer here. The principle of the voltage controlled amplifier is based on the fact that the amplification varies according to the voltage coming from the Hall sensor. This process allows a much more precise operation than the mechanical potentiometer or the optical sensor of conventional volume pedals, especially as the potentiometer noise disappears and tedious calibration becomes superfluous. The Lehle Stereo Volume reproduces all the frequencies of the instrument over the entire travel of the platter. The input and output impedances always remain the same. There is therefore no treble attenuation effect as with a potentiometer. Inside the pedal, the supply voltage is rectified, filtered, stabilized and then doubled to reach 18 volts. Thus, the pedal resists very well at all levels and reaches 110 dB of dynamics. The variation in volume applied by the Lehle Stereo Volume ranges from -92 to 0 dB, that is to say from almost nothing up to the unit volume. The Lehle Stereo Volume operates very quietly and evenly as it is equipped with low friction sliding bearings made of high quality polymer to suppress mechanical transmissions from the chainring to the other components. An adjustment screw allows very precise adjustment of the resistance of the plate. Lehle Stereo Volume allows you to send a single signal to two outputs, but also to add two source signals into a single output: when a mono signal feeds the device, the Split function allows you to create two output channels. When a stereo or dual mono signal is fed to the device, the input summation function transforms it into a mono signal. In studio and PA applications, for example to control effects or buses, the outputs of the Lehle Stereo Volume can be used unbalanced (2-point jacks) or balanced (3-point jacks).
