Red Panda reverb Context 2
The Context is a reverb pedal inspired by the 80s rack reverb. It has 8 reverb algorithms including room, hall, cathedral, with gate, reverse, plate, spring and granular. Version 2 adds in addition to stereo inputs and outputs, USB MIDI, external expression pedal control, 3 new modes, delay and reverb in all modes, separate settings for bases and treble, modulation, reverb dynamics and infinite sustain. The room, hall, cathedral, gate and plate reverb algorithms are updates to version 1 reverbs but the delay is now available in all modes. The Mod modulation setting changes the amount and character of the internal modulation and results in a mix of different types of modulation from the 80s to early 90s reverbs, including chorus, random modulation with stable pitch, and intensely modulated reverb. You can adjust the modulation frequency by keeping the Shift button pressed. The reverse reverb is progressively louder and brighter to give the impression of playing backwards and the modulation adds normal reverb. The spring reverb is not inspired by a particular spring reverb. Instead, Red Panda designed a spring loaded reverb algorithm using the techniques and algorithms that were used in '80s reverbs, but with much more processing power. This results in a spring type reverb but with its own character. You can adjust the length of the effect release as well as the bass and treble. The modulation is a tremolo with adjustable intensity and speed. Of course, delay and dynamics are available as well. Grain Mode is a granular reverb modeled after the Ursa Major SST-282 Space Station which came out in 1978 and used multiple delays with modulation to create reverb effects. The Context can create ghostly reverb effects, from slow sweeping resonances to a granular multi-voice processor that creates clouds of detuned sound fragments to give completely new reverb sounds. When the Shift button is pressed, the upper buttons are used to adjust the delay parameters. The Hi and Lo knobs adjust the dynamics by allowing modification of the threshold and the recovery time. By keeping the footswitches pressed, you will obtain infinite sustain. The left footswitch keeps the input active so the sound goes up. The right footswitch freezes the reverb while your original signal continues to play. There is 1 preset available on the left footswitch and 127 via MIDI or the external footswitch. An expression or CV (Control Voltage) pedal can be assigned to any combination of parameters. Finally, there is an online editor to modify your presets even more. 8 Room algorithms: rapid rise to thicken the sound. Hall: slower rise with longer initial delay. Cath (edral): simulates a large, reflective space. Gate: reverb with gate and non-linear release. Rev (erse): reverse reverb. Plate: Bright and dense flat-type studio reverb. Spring: spring reverb. Grain: granular reverb. Blend settings: mix of original signal / effect (up to 100% effect). Pre: pre-delay. Decay: release of the delay. Hi: flattening of the treble. Lo: flattening of the bass. Mod: amount and character of the modulation. Settings (with Shift pressed) Bal: reverb / delay balance. Delay: delay time. Fdbk: delay feedback. (Hi): dynamics recovery time. (Lo): threshold of dynamics. Rate: modulation frequency. Designed and assembled in the USA. The Context 2 requires a standard power supply (not supplied) of 9 Volts at 250 mA with negative center.
